Kniphofia 'Winter Cheer'

Kniphofia 'Winter Cheer' syn K 'Zululandia'
This is the old fashioned hardy "Red- hot Poker" which is in flower now. It is a tall robust plant to 1.5metres and large clumps of it often survive in old or abandoned gardens . It is even seen growing in paddocks or near gate posts at the entrance to country properties. This gives an indication as to how tough a plant it really is. It can be a bit difficult to find in the Nursery trade now as it has been superseded by smaller cultivars which have less strident colours. It can be dug up and divided at any time of year  though the root system is large and some effort may be required to do this .Given lots of space it quick growing and reliably flowers each year regardless of how much care or water it has had during the year.
2017 update: I no longer grow Kniphofias.
