Gladiolus sp. Cristas-de-searus
This is one of the Spring wildflowers of Portugal (Estremadura province) and Spain, growing abundantly in cultivated fields and in Olive groves. It is easy to spot as the bright rosy -purple or magenta flowers are clearly visible from a distance and draw your eye. I found this growing wild last year in our spring month of early November in an overgrown garden. It was bold enough to be seen amongst a tangle of vegetation from 100 metres away. Gladiolus are easy to grow and often survive in old gardens or wild places. This one could be either G segetum or G communis..
