Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus'. Silver Grass

Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus'
 Japanese Silver Grass
This bright stripy grass is a great landscaping plant and is hardy over a range of climates. It is very decorative at this time of year as the flower plumes mature and the leaf blades take on reddish tones. It is perennial and needs to be cut back in late winter to make way for spring growth though in milder climates it can send up new shoots earlier so a late autumn pruning can be carried out.
The appeal in cold climates is for the old flower stems to capture delicate ice crystals enhancing the winter garden scene. In warmer climates ,plants which are not tidied up of old growth tend to provide a warm dry home for insect pests to sit out the cold days while waiting for spring.

This Miscanthus teams well with tall perennials such as Cannas and Heliopsis.
2017 update: I have currently sold out. More plants available in spring.
