Cryptanthus, 'Earth Stars'

Cryptanthus
 'Earth Stars'

These curious Bromeliads from Brazil are given an apt common name as they lay flat in a pot or on the ground and are star shaped .The colour combinations on the leaves are quite unusual, often pink, grey, maroon, purple and bronze with stripes, bands and snake like markings as well. Some have a frosting of silver over the leaves which gives them a dusty appearance. They can be grown in the ground under trees but will need a humus rich soil and a reasonable amount of nutrients. A wide pot also suits them as well. They are only tolerant of a light frost and prefer a warm humid environment to thrive.
2017 update: I don't have any available for sale.
