Aechmea blanchetiana

This is one of the spectacular Bromeliads from the coastal regions of Brazil which is much hardier than you would expect .It copes with hot dry sunny conditions, exposed conditions near the beach and will even tolerate a moderate frost in gardens away from the coast. It grows to about 1.5 metres and varies in colour from pale bronze green when grown in the shade to vibrant orange when grown in exposed conditions with shallow soil.

2017 update: I have not done any propagation from my plants as yet. Tissue culture plants are normally available from Plant Biotech in Queensland.
